sure, bendix drive gears always are removable from the starter shaft. The ring that retains them is a bit 'difficult' sometimes, but doable. ... From:

So my buddy spoke with the shop that built the starter and they said that the bendix should be from the vanagon. Does anyone know if the bendix alone is
