The starter is the vanagon housing and the Jetta guts. Can anyone hazard a guess as to which the Bendix would have come from? The Jetta or the Van? Cheers! ...

What year? I just looked at the Bentley and it labels pin #2 as the W connection. I looked it up for a MKIII not a MKIV so that might be the difference.Chris...

This Alternator Does not have a "w" marked it is D+ and D- I believe. I had a friend that had the W on his plain as day. so maybe the plastic cover is wrong?...

I think all MK-4 alternators have a DFM terminal which sends a signal to the ECU telling how much load and then there is the idiot light terminal - no more W...
